For the first time in history, Rajasthan has become India’s most popular destination for festive holidays in 2025. Rajasthan has become an important part of the culture and a festive centre. This is evidence of the state being an attraction state for the festive season for many domestic and overseas tourists looking for real culture and tradition.

    Rajasthan’s Rise in Popularity

Rajasthan’s rise in popularity has been indescribably drastic. The state has recently become an impactful tourist attraction, raising positive hype and media attention. Reports show that the travel circuit of Rajasthan, made up of Jaisalmer, Udaipur, Jaipur, and Jodhpur, was responsible for producing 16% of India’s festive holiday bookings, up from 10%. To put this into perspective, Goa and Kerala’s share of the festive holiday market is 10% and 9% respectively. Hence, Rajasthan is leading the holiday market over Goa and Kerala, and has proven its rise in popularity is justified.

Within the boundaries of Rajasthan, there is always something to experience, whether it is the royal palaces, the colourful festivals, or something else. This is primarily the reason why the state’s attractions are being sought after and marketed to domestic tourism — cultural tourism is being favoured over the usual beach holiday. One of the reasons Rajasthan is a state for cultural tourism is the unique blend of history, art, and the traditions of the locals. All of these attributes make the state an interesting destination for those holidaying just for a break and who wish to encounter India’s rich history and vibrant traditions firsthand.

    Jaipur’s International Recognition

Recently, the capital city of Rajasthan, Jaipur, has attracted more and more global tourism. This is also associated with the astounding ranking in the Travel + Leisure company — Jaipur is now in the 5th place in the list of World’s Best Cities, a big achievement since it has beaten world class cities like Florence. Jaipur has now become a place for cultural tourism since it is rich in history, unique architecture, and colourful markets. All of these attributes make the state an interesting destination for those holidaying just for a break and who wish to encounter India’s rich history and vibrant traditions firsthand.

Jaipur is also well-integrated into international travel circuits. The city has hosted many international events, as well as high-profile destination weddings and festivals, and is becoming a city of extravagant tourism. Every year, the city’s ornate forts, palaces, and temples, such as the Amber Fort, City Palace, and Hawa Mahal, welcome millions of visitors. This makes Jaipur a cornerstone in the success of tourism in Rajasthan.

Multicoloured Functions as a Boon for Marketing

Rajasthan is a festive state, and that is an important part of the tourism marketing. The state showcases numerous documented celebrations that showcase the culture and heritage of Rajasthan. The major festivals, such as Diwali, Holi, Teej, and Makar Sankranti, bring the state together in a grand manner. Smaller, unique festivals, like the Karni Mata Fair, Sheetla Mata Fair, and the Beneshwar Fair, further bolster Rajasthan’s popularity as a festive holiday destination.

These festivals also help tourists see local practices and rituals performed in their purest form. Take, for instance, the Karni Mata Fair, which takes place at the Karni Mata Temple in Deshnok, near Bikaner. This festival, which is “Temple of Rats,” brings together thousands of tourists from across the globe, eager to take in the unique spiritual experience of the bond and communion of man and animals living together in this region.

The Sheetla Mata Fair, celebrated every year in Rewari, also in the springtime, is dedicated to the goddess of healing, Sheetla Mata. This festival is renowned for its unique, tasty food offerings, vibrant art and folk culture, as well as its spiritual mood. For foreign tourists, this abstract experience of culture is also in the form of Rajasthan’s lesser-known celebrations. This difference also adds to the unique value of the state when compared to the rest of the country.

    Improved Infrastructure and Connectivity

The improvement of tourism infrastructure in the state is one of the reasons Rajasthan is one of the top places in the country to visit during the holidays. The state’s major attractions are becoming easier to access. The introduction of the Vande Bharat Express trains, which connect cities like Udaipur, Jodhpur, and Bikaner to the rest of India, offers faster and more accessible travel options. These high-speed trains are one of the many ways the Indian government is working to expand the country’s tourism network, and are expected to further develop tourism in the state.

Apart from the high-speed trains, Rajasthan is also improving its airport and roadway systems. Jaipur International Airport has ongoing expansions, which will allow for more international and domestic flights, and the roads and highways to the state’s major attractions are also undergoing expansions and improvements for easier access.

The state government has continued to customize services for tourists: multilingual guides, enhanced signage, hospitality improvements, and so on, so tourists get the seamless experience we want them to have right from the start. Improved tourism services have not only increased the number of domestic tourists but have also positioned Rajasthan to be a growing competitor in the international tourism market.

When it comes to Rajasthan’s growing market, appreciation for the state’s sustainable practices in tourism is also merited. Rajasthan has kept an admirable focus on cultural heritage preservation as well as on catering to the growing demand for travel. Rajasthan prioritizes eco-tourism, responsible travel, and minimizing environmental impact and has policies aimed at driving tourism. Many resorts and hotels in Rajasthan have adopted eco-friendly practices, such as using solar energy, recycling waste, and promoting local craftsmanship.

Rajasthan practices countless eco-positive tourism initiatives centred on water and wildlife, as well as community tourism. Also, the state has instituted cultural heritage preservation and tourism programs to support heritage sites, and in particular, the UNESCO World Heritage-listed forts and palaces.

Rajasthan becoming India’s most popular festive holiday destination in 2025 speaks volumes about the development of tourism in the state. The combination of the state’s cultural heritage, festivals, infrastructure growth, and sustainable tourism (keeping in mind the present-day tourist focus on eco-friendly practices) all contribute towards a destination that is not just a holiday, but a gateway into India’s regal past. It is a must-visit destination for those looking for a deeply rooted and festive experience during the holiday season.

Rajasthan’s festivals and culture are unique in the country. The continued growth in tourism infrastructure will see tourism growth in the state for years to come. For both international and domestic travellers, Rajasthan will continue to be the most popular festive holiday destination in the country for years to come.
